Brett Ligon — Biography
Brett Ligon is the Republican candidate for Montgomery County District Attorney who possesses the background, qualifications and experience we need to meet the needs of a growing community and demands of changing public safety environment.
Ligon has a lifetime of experience in law enforcement. His career in criminal justice began immediately after receiving his political science degree from Texas A & M, when he joined the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department Jail Division and worked his way through South Texas College of Law.
Upon receiving his law degree, Ligon became a prosecutor with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. As an Assistant District Attorney, Brett protected and served the citizens of the greater Houston area gaining valuable experience prosecuting felony and misdemeanor crimes of all types. Mr. Ligon was also assigned to prosecute domestic violence cases and juvenile offenders, and was later promoted to Chief Prosecutor of the Justice of the Peace Division.
Always supportive of law enforcement officers, Mr. Ligon’s commitment to their cause led him to the Houston Police Officers Union, where he joined the Office of Legal Counsel, representing and defending police officers. As Staff Counsel, Mr. Ligon gained further insight into police investigations, grand jury proceedings, use of force and deadly force encounters, public integrity and civil rights matters, and a variety of other aspects of law enforcement to which most prosecutors and defense attorneys are not regularly exposed.
As a conservative Republican, Brett knows that governments’ first responsibility is the protection of its citizens. When citizens do not feel safe in their homes and neighborhoods, or traveling about the community for work and pleasure, little else matters. In fact, such is his determination to help safeguard the lives of our most vulnerable citizens that Brett and his family actively support charities that benefit child victims of domestic violence.
Brett and his wife of 14 years, Shannon, were both raised here and educated in the public schools in Montgomery County. They are the proud parents of Austin (8) and Morgan (2), and they are active members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
